Why quality is more important than quantity for us

At Mother Earth, we have been guided by one very simple principle from the beginning: create less, but better. In a world where overproduction has become the norm, and clothes often lose their value faster than we can truly wear them, we consciously choose a different path – a path of quality, responsibility, and mindfulness.

We don't believe in random quantity. We believe in things that make sense. In thoughtful designs, good materials, and clothes that stay with you for years, not just for one season. Because clothing shouldn't be a fleeting moment – it should be a part of everyday life that just works.

And that's why it's so important for us to speak plainly about the current state of the apparel industry. The scale of clothing production in the world is enormous – it's estimated that over 100 billion garments are produced annually. This number, in practice, means overproduction on an unprecedented scale. What's more, according to data from organizations dealing with sustainable development, approximately 30% of produced clothing is never sold, and a significant portion ends up being burned or in landfills.

The hidden cost of clothing – the environment

Fashion has a huge impact on the planet – often greater than it seems. The textile industry is responsible for about 10% of global CO₂ emissions, making it one of the most polluting sectors in the world. For comparison, that's more than all international flights and maritime transport combined.

Water consumption is also a huge challenge. The production of one cotton T-shirt can consume up to 2700 liters of water, and a pair of jeans can use as much as 7000–10,000 liters. To illustrate this scale – that's the amount one person drinks over several years of their life.

In addition, there's a problem that went unnoticed for years: microplastics. Synthetic fabrics release microfibers during washing, which end up in rivers and oceans. It's estimated that over 500,000 tons of microplastics annually come from textiles, meaning fashion has a direct impact on aquatic ecosystems.

All of this means that the way we produce clothes truly matters.

That is precisely why at Mother Earth, we do not engage in mass production.

Our collections are limited in quantity, and each drop is created based on real needs, not excess inventory. We do not stock clothes, create surpluses, or produce "just in case."

One of the key elements of our work is knit fabrics produced specifically for our orders. These are not ready-made materials available off the shelf. Each knit is created through a process specifically designed for us – for a given project, its structure, grammage, and the final effect we want to achieve.

This means that our materials are not available at any time and in unlimited quantities. Each batch is produced specifically for a collection, and the entire process requires time, precision, and cooperation with manufacturers. That's why sometimes you have to wait for re-stocks – not because something is missing, but because it is not a mass-produced item.

And that's where one of the biggest differences lies.

Such production ensures that we do not create excess, do not generate unnecessary stock, and do not contribute to a problem that is enormous on a global scale. Every element has its place, meaning, and purpose.

We believe that clothes should last a long time. That's why our knit fabrics are designed to be durable, soft, resistant to pilling, and to maintain their shape for years of use.

Over time, it becomes clearest – the more conscious our choices, the fewer things we truly need.

And that's what quality is all about.

Not about more.
But about better.
